Ukraine Strikes St. Petersburg Oil Terminal 1,100km Inside Russia

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Wednesday that Kyiv's forces launched a deep-strike overnight operation targeting Russia's St. Petersburg Oil Terminal — one of the most strategically significant petroleum hubs in the country's northwest.

"The distance from Ukraine's state border to this facility of Russia's oil industry, which serves the war, is about 1,100 kilometers," Zelensky wrote on X, underscoring the unprecedented reach of the assault.

The strike on the terminal — which handles up to 12.5 million tons of petroleum annually, making it a critical artery in Russia's energy export infrastructure — marks a significant escalation in Ukraine's campaign to target the economic machinery sustaining Moscow's war effort.

The overnight operation extended beyond the oil facility. Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces also hit "pure military targets" at the Kronstadt naval base, a historic installation outside St. Petersburg, and struck a weapons production site in Russia's Tambov region — hundreds of kilometers from the front lines.

The coordinated, multi-target strikes signal a broadening of Ukraine's long-range offensive strategy, shifting focus from battlefield engagements to dismantling the industrial and military networks Russia relies on to sustain its war machine.
